KKB 18. März Cartoon
Cartoon's on Homeschooling © 10b

In this cartoon you can see a very untidy room. A small kid is sitting in an armchair and tapping with a finger on his mobile phone. The speech bubble above it says: "I can´t do this exercise with a smartphone". His mother, I suppose, is carrying a laundry basket and answering: "So, I´ve got a new exercise: We get a grant of 150€. How many bottles does dad have to collect, so that we can buy a new laptop?

This cartoon deals with two subjects: First of all, all of the schools are closed during the pandemic. A learning platform provides the materials. After the learning material has been put online, the pupils can download it. Good technical equipment is required to handle larger work orders. But that is missing in some families. In poorer families the children usually only have a smartphone and no laptop where they can work on larger assignments. In the first lockdown, there was also no support from the schools to provide this. To make matters worse, many employees were laid off because the companies were no longer able to achieve enough profit to pay them. Also, other companies stop hiring people because they don't know if they will survive. In the worst case, those who were laid off, can´t find a job anymore and live on the streets and try to finance some of their living by collecting returnable bottles and giving them back to the supermarket in exchange for the deposit.
