Anatomy Tower

A tower for powder, corpses and pathologists. What is the mysterious Regensburg anatomy tower?

The tower plays an "active" role in the search for traces of building culture. It is perceived as a "person" so to speak; it comments, for example, on the results of the search for clues or is questioned and reports from its "life" and from "its perspective" on the events of the respective epoch.

These stories are associated with the historical situation in Europe or dock onto a real local event (Powder Tower, Anatomy Tower, Royal Villa etc.). Furthermore, fictional or emotional descriptions are also conceivable.

In small teams, the students examined the tower in its historical and architectural existence and filmed these investigations with their mobile phones. The results are individual short video clips on various topics and time layers, which focus and document the young people's examination of the tower.

In teams of three, the pupils examined the tower from different perspectives and with different methods in order to understand it from a structural point of view and to be able to classify it in terms of (architectural) history. In addition, historically relevant aspects were to be researched, especially with regard to the function/use of the tower. The following topics were the subject of the search for traces: city wall as well as the classification of the anatomy tower as a component of the city wall, use as a powder tower, use as an anatomy tower, structural overmodelling in the 19th century, accommodation of refugees in the 20th century, today 21st century and perspective use.

In a small/short "window" each time, central aspects of the time periods were to be highlighted or emphasized. These themes were to be transferred to the present and life-worlds of the young people and ironized a little, e.g. anatomical experiments in the 18th century dissecting bull's eyes in the Pindl biology room. In principle, different film genres/techniques are possible. Experiences, results of the excursions and guided tours as well as interviews with experts, Regensburg citizens or passers-by/tourists should also be included in the film.

All in all, the anatomy tower was illuminated on different levels in the project.
