Regensburg’s greatest archaeological excavations to this day took place in the Neupfarrplatz in the centre of the city from 1995 to 1998. They brought to light the various layers of the city’s development in an ideally typical way. The cross-section ranges from Roman officers’ dwellings through the mediaeval Jewish quarter with its synagogue to an air-raid shelter from World War II.
