According to the Bavarian Law for the Preservation of Historic Places, the High Authority for the Preservation of Historic Places (the Regional Government for Oberpfalz) is responsible for the preservation and oversight of buildings belonging to the German Federation, the Free State of Bavaria and its districts.

Specialised questions are discussed and agreed upon together with the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historic Places.
All other historic buildings covered by the Bavarian Law for the Preservation of Historic Places are under the specialist oversight and factual jurisdiction of the Lower Authority for the Preservation of Historic Places, part of the Regensburg City Administration.
